QUALIFICATIONS: A 2 or 4 year degree in an agricultural curriculum with an emphasis in production is preferred. Experience in personnel management preferred.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Assumes direct or indirect responsibility for all aspects of the farm. Has knowledge of animal care, biosecurity, facilities upkeep and maintenance, farrowing, breeding, gilt development, record keeping, supply management, and people management.

About the Role:

• You assist with feeding, watering and movement of sows and piglets
• You maintain specified housekeeping assignments, including power washing and disinfecting, in accordance with the provided housekeeping guidelines and expectations
• You carry out and understand the importance of all biosecurity procedures  
• You keep accurate record keeping for breeding and farrowing of sows within a timely and accurate manner

Looking for an employee to join a 3rd generation family farm. Dawson Farms Inc is a hog and grain farm located in Delaware, Ohio. This employee will be working alongside two of the farm owners in a team environment caring for 1,400 sows. This is a long term position with opportunity for advancement within the operation.

A Day in the Life:

This key, entry-level position, works 1st shift (approx. 6:00am-2:30pm M-F) and is responsible for the daily care of all mother pigs and piglets to assure optimum productivity.  This person will work indoors in a climate-controlled environment and assist in all aspects of animal care, as well as perform light facility repair and maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have the desire to work with pigs, a willingness to learn, a high level of dependability as evidenced with a solid work history, and a proven record of drive for excellence.

Pregnant sows require individualized care throughout their gestation period, also known as pregnancy. Sow Farm Team Members are responsible for ensuring optimal health and well-being of sows through daily care and monitoring. This entry-level position will be responsible for assisting with feeding, performing pregnancy checks, keeping precise records, maintaining living conditions, assisting fellow team members with the breeding process, administering preventative vaccinations, and more. Individuals should enjoy working with other team members, working on their feet, utilizing farm technology and being in a fast-paced working environment.

This entry-level position is responsible for providing care to mother pigs, also known as sows, and piglets, in the farm’s birthing center, also known as a farrowing facility. The Swine Farm Technician will perform a variety of roles to monitor the health and well-being of sows, such as: performing pregnancy checks, keeping precise records, maintaining living conditions, assisting fellow team members with the breeding process, and more. This position will also monitor health of newborn piglets by providing initial care, ensuring piglets are nursing from their mother, adjusting heat lamps, providing treatment, maintaining a clean environment, among other duties.
